Cape Cod Treks' Day Full of Off-Road Bike Paths, Natural Beauty, and Threatening Weather

Biking on Cape Cod

Down the Cape Cod Canal and through the town of Falmouth we rode today. A bike path along the stretch of water made for smooth riding, and the canal was full of people fishing on its banks. We saw a Great Blue Heron, and watched the train bridge raise and lower for boats to pass underneath.
We met some friendly folks throughout the day who offered route suggestions. While eating lunch on a found patch of grass in a smaller part of town, we were approached by a local pastor, also a cyclist, who suggested we get riding to camp, as a thunderstorm was reported to hit the area. As light raindrops fell, we finished up lunch and hurried to our destination at Sippewissett Campground. We followed another bike path into camp, which wound us throughout some truly breathtaking marshland. Lucky for us, the rain never came, so we decided to unpack our gear, and found a nearby beach to swim in the ocean. We also collected shells, dug a hole and examined the exoskeleton of a washed up horseshoe crab.
After some time at the beach, we headed back to camp and decided to order pizza for the group, as the skies looked rather ominous and we didn't want to get caught cooking outside in a storm. Again, the rain held off, and we played variations of volleyball, soccer, baseball and kan-jam at the camp's facilities. Working up a sweat, we stopped for an ice cream in the camp store and went to the campground's game room, where we played games of Uno, chess and relaxed on the couches.

We ended our night near the fire, hopeful for our next few days of travel through Martha's Vineyard.
