We woke up this morning after a really windy night at Gaviota State Park and we
were quickly warmed by the rising sun. Today we had to take on an extra 10 miles
because the campground we were supposed to stay at was closed because of an oil
pipeline spill. As we road along Hwy 101 this morning we could see signs of the
cleanup process as helicopters flew overhead, cleanup crews camped out along the
highway, and oil rigs could be seen across the water a couple of miles out. We
rode the 20 miles into Santa Barbara and rode through the campus of UC Santa
Barbara before stopping for lunch at a beach along the bike path. The hot sun
brought out a little water fight before we hopped back on our bikes to finish
out the day. Jared did a wonderful job as point navigating the many turns on our
way out of Santa Barbara. Tonight chefs Russell and Alex are preparing grilled
cheese! I can't wait!
