Another day of adventure came and went, and by late afternoon we made
it to Nickerson State Park in Brewster.
We left our hotel in West Yarmouth in the morning and hopped on the
Cape Cod Rail Trail for the majority of our ride into camp. Along the trail we
came across a large pond, and stopped for a quick dip before trekking to the
grocery store for provisions.
After sharing a gallon of ice cream outside of the store, we
continued on the trail and found a spot to make lunch. We ate sandwiches, bagged
lettuce and chips in a tree surrounded by marsh land.
After enjoying the nourishing break, we kept on trekking to the more
than 1,000-acre state park, where we set up camp. There's a huge pond just a
short walk from our site, so we walked down to the water and went swimming. Some
of us made new friends with other folks at the beach, and we also swam to a
large rock further down the shoreline.
We left just before the sun began its initial descent. After dinner,
roasted marshmallows and s'mores capped the evening off in anticipation for
another day of exploring the area. -- Trip leaders Annise and Cory
