Pacific Northwest Trek Does Orcas Island

"Two days ago we biked to Orcas Island (it was an hour long ferry ride) The biking was awesome.  We biked up part of Mt. Constitution and felt the burn.  We slept at Moran State Park and yesterday and we got to sleep in whole 30 minutes.  After our usual breakfast of granola, we hiked up Mt. Constitution's 2050 feet.  All up hill!  On the way up we saw these small huts made of wood, however the true purpose of such huts continued to remain a mystery. After an hour or two we arrived at the top for a beautiful view of FOG.  The entire mountain was drenched and unfortunately the view was missed. However at the top there was a tower that all of us climbed and learned that the path we hiked was the first created .  After a delicious lunch of apples and PB&J we met Rosio Orcas Ignasius, a naturalist who showed us a small lake with salamanders.  We also learned the history of the mountain and how the rest of the land was carved out by glaciers.  On the long trek down the mountain many floods were seen.  As a result everyone can identify a banana flood.  For dinner we had amazing chili.  We went to bed early so that we could make an early morning ferry off the island.  Today we will bike 50 miles.  Ten down and forty to go." -- Caroline, Teen Trekker
