New York - Montreal Trek Rides Upstate

Our second New York - Montreal Trek is making good time through NY state.  They discovered a wonderful swimming spot that we didn't even know about here at the office, which leaders Josh and Rachel have promised to mark on our maps for future Treks. 

They've also been touring the Franklin D. Roosevelt house and gardens -- getting filled in on some of the site's history by a friendly park ranger -- and conquering some long rides with a strong, cheerful team dynamic.  Last night, they rewarded themselves after dinner by making s'mores around a campfire.

They're headed to Albany next, and then on to Lake George!

New York-Montreal (NYM A5) is Making Their Way to Albany!

The group checked out the Franklin D Roosevelt house in Hoyt Park, New York.  Everyone got an interesting history lesson while touring FDR's favorite home and the expansive gardens, which are sprinkled with statues and resting areas.  

Yesterday, the Trekkers had a long day of biking, with a riverside lunch and swimming.  They biked along pretty farms, up some hills and got plenty of ice cream in return for their hard work.  The group spent last night staying at an estuary preserve that was full of bloomed flowers. Everyone relaxed, check out the flowers and swam in the Hudson during the evening.  The worst part of the day was that a few spoons broke in the ice cream.  Some suspect that a conspiracy is in play.
The group is in Albany today, and everyone is excited for the hotel and pool.  Kyle, one of the Leaders, is attending grad school in Albany, and has a few interesting spots to show the group.

It turned out to be the perfect spot for lunch and a cool down.

New York-Montreal Checks Out FDR's Home

The Day 3 update:

The group biked a fast 30 miles from the camp site to what was Franklin D. Roosevelt's favorite home: Springwood in Hyde Park, NY. We were happy to see less hills today on the route. We got to tour the home he was born in and learned a lot. The grounds were absolutely beautiful! We are camping again tonight, and only have a couple more miles to bike today.

 Words to summarize today's trip from the Trekkers: pizza (yum!), quick, pleasant, damp, enjoyable. 

So far the trip is going well, no major bike or direction problems which is making the trip run very smoothly!  The group gets on great-the benefits of a small group of Trekkers is that everyone already knows one another pretty well.  Ready for another great day along the Hudson...!
